In response to urban expansion, the Urban Greening project aims to improve the quality of life of urban Gabonese populations by integrating green spaces into urban planning, fostering biodiversity, and promoting environmental awareness.

Objectives

  • Establish model urban green spaces in Libreville and Port-Gentil.
  • Raise awareness of urban ecology among citizens and students.
  • Restore degraded sites and enhance biodiversity corridors.
  • Promote Gabon’s natural heritage through environmental education.

Results to date

  • Over 8,000 native plants propagated and planted.
  • Three green corridors and two biodiversity gardens established in Libreville and Port-Gentil, covering approximately 20 hectares, combining botanical, school, and community garden sites
  • Education materials disseminated in schools.
  • National urban ecology conference held to share knowledge.
