Annual Review adopted in Yaoundé confirms partnership on track
The Republic of Cameroon and the Central African Forest Initiative (CAFI) have formally adopted the findings of their first Annual Review, confirming strong momentum in a decade-long partnership aimed at ending deforestation while driving inclusive, green economic growth.
“Together, let us make this partnership a powerful lever to build an emerging, sustainable and united Cameroon,” said H.E.M Alamine Ousmane Mey, Cameroon’s Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, at the Annual Review’s closing session.
Key achievements of the 2025-2026 start-up phase include:
- 21 of 33 milestones set out in the Letter of Intent already achieved (3) or in progress (18), such as ,
- The adoption of the 29 December 2025 Decree (No. 2025/03044) establishing that every program, project or transformative initiative (domestically or externally funded) must submit an alignment report to MINEPAT at the start of the process, showing how it fits the National Development Strategy
- Three regional land use plans already approved (Ouest, le Centre and Adamaoua)
- Agro ecological transition “Guichet” reached 50% of implementation
- Over 320,000 cocoa and coffee producers registered on FODECC’s new digital subsidy platform, exceeding the target set in the Letter of Intent milestone
- $93+ million in CAFI grants approved, most of it across structuring projects spanning governance, sustainable agriculture, and integrated landscape management
“CAFI remains fully committed alongside Cameroon in supporting this trajectory, in a spirit of partnership, performance, transparency, and collective learning,“ said Berta Pesti, Head of the CAFI Secretariat.
With flagship projects now operational, Cameroon is positioning itself as a regional leader in direct national access to international climate finance, with the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT) and FODECC advancing toward accreditation that would allow funds to flow directly to national institutions.
