Technical workshop in Mbalmayo builds on synthesis drivers study to propose priority actions

Strategic options, axes and actions for REDD+ in Cameroon will be at the heart of multi-stakeholder technical discussions organized in Mbalmayo, Cameroon starting today until 15 February. The starting point for these discussions is a new report that builds on :

  • Proposed measures in the Readiness Preparation Proposal (R-PP) elaborated by Cameroon and validated in 2013
  • The emission reduction programme (ER-PIN) in Sud Plateau, elaborated and validated in 2016
  • An in-depth study of drivers in Sud Plateau elaborated in 2016
  • A synthesis report on drivers of deforestation in Cameroon

The workshop will seek to deepen thinking on analytical methodology to assess the drivers ; improve the identification of actions under each stratetgic axis; refine the methodology to prioritise strategic actions ; and finally, propose priority actions for each strategic axis (agriculture, forestry and wood-energy, infrastructure and mines) and action.

The workshop will gather representatives from partner institutions for REDD+ in Cameroon, including the experts of the REDD+ Technical Secretariat and of the Rainbow Cabinet; technical and financial partners - national and international non-governmental organisations, research institutes, civil society organisations ; and representatives from the sectoral administrations engaged in REDD+.

Following this workshop, a first draft of the National REDD+ investment plan is expected in March.
