Sweden joins CAFI as its 9th donor

October 2022 -Sweden joins CAFI as its ninth contributor, in line with its 2022–2026 regional development strategy for Africa



With this contribution, Sweden joins a pool of 7 European and South Korea. Sweden’s regional strategy is aligned with CAFI’s key objectives, with actions on reducing deforestation, enhancing land use planning, agriculture, local communities and indigenous peoples, and especially biodiversity conservation. To increase adaptability and resilience to climate change and environmental and natural disasters, Sweden emphasizes the significance of protection, conservation and restoration of biodiversity and its ecosystem services, as well as expanding access to renewable energy sources and enhancing energy efficiency.

Sweden has already transferred $ 3.6 million to the CAFI Fund as part of its contribution to safeguard the second-largest  forest in the world. Within CAFI, besides environment, climate and sustainable use of natural resources, Sweden focus will be on Human rights, democracy, the rule of law and gender equality, Migration and development, Inclusive economic development and peaceful and inclusive societies.

 

Sweden’s strategy is based on principle of aid and development effectiveness, the 2030 Agenda, the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, and the Paris Agreement, strives to create opportunities for better living conditions for people living in poverty and oppression.
